Our first paddock beast:
As you can see the car has seen better times. Our neighbours gave us the mini
one weekend after we had been riding around the paddock on our motorbike.
When we got it the roof had been cut off and there was no glass to be seen.
Judging by the panels the previous drivers had hit some fence posts.
Once we pushed it over to our place it took some effort to get it started.
There was no ignition so it had to be hot wired. I eventually put a
switch system in which worked kind of like a stock car. It ran well,
good to learn to drive in. It did not go fast enough to endanger ourselves
too much, but it had very little brakes and no handbrake.
It was awesome having friends around and hooning around the paddock
in our orange mini. One friend (who shall remain nameless) tried to
reverse turn and then take off again in first (reverse skid sort of)
I and another of my friends ad pulled it off, but not a third time.
The CV joints packed it in and "Knackered Neville" (as it was affectionately known)
was DEAD. On a post-mortem it was discovered that the CV joints had
no rubber boots, oil, or even teeth? It was miracle it still went.
EPITAPH: The mini is now used as stress relief. The pickaxe marks
and lead pipe in the back tell it all. The rear chasis (in front of the
car now) was going to be turned into a 4-wheeler trailer one day.
Maybe we'll get around to it. Maybe we'll be too busy driving.
Engine parts are availible to those interested. The motor still ran the day we
pulled it out. About October 1996. Unsure on size but its probably an 850cc.
Squealee your way back to the car list
